So, finally I am back after a long time as was busy dealing with my clients and other business commitments! Yesterday while I was surfing the internet I landed on a website which made me feel a special visitor for them. You know what made me feel so special? Any guesses? Well, let me tell you then! That was the simple navigational messages and pop-up messages of that website. Now you must be thinking how navigational messages and pop-up messages can make someone feel special.

Today you will find firms spending a lot in terms of budget on Social media campaigns and optimization activities to build relationship with different communities and to convert them into corporate relationships whereas, the language used in their websites are still in-human and unimpressive keeping in mind an average visitor.

 

Just imagine trying to create a new blog account or even a simple e-mail account on a new website and continuously receiving error messages/pop-ups. I am sure the first thing on your mind will be opt for some other user-friendly website or any other e-mail service provider. I felt these pages and the instructions on them were similar to an endless journey in the dark dungeons, where-in you do not have any idea about where you are going or about the destination you wish to reach.

It may seem funny to you, but unlike others this website was a totally different experience for me as the notifications and the messages popping up as instructions on it were quite easy to understand and simple. It can be made out easily that the owners of the website are well aware of the fact that it is these messages that assist you in creating an emotional quotient successfully with your target audience. These messages made me feel as of there is someone guiding me through all these web formalities and forms unlike other websites who annoy me with their repeated error messages. As a part of end-user community what I strongly feel is that the type of language used in the websites play a vital role in attracting a user for a long time as I ended up being a member of the same website which I mentioned in the above context.

 

Things to keep in mind while framing the messages or instructions on a website for the visitors

 

 

    • Simplicity is considered as the best policy, which is why websites with simple language end up attracting much larger audience than some big names in the market.

 


  • Adding human emotions through simple and appealing messages in the form of instructions or pop-up messages.
    Avoiding harsh language or tone like a machine in the messages.

  • You should make the visitor feel as if someone is there to guide him or her by using specific language in the messages that is related to the problem, which the visitor is facing.

  • Using friendly language to instruct or guide users on a website helps you in establishing a cordial relationship with the visitors, which is same as that in 'Social media optimization' only with much lesser efforts.

  • AVOID USING TEHCNICAL TERMS in messages as all the visitors may not be aware of the terms that you use in your services.

 


It will be very sad to conclude that firms that we have today are paying much attention towards presentation of images and the color scheme of their website whereas the language part still lies in deep jeopardy as a result of which, the website in the end proves to be an epic failure. If you wish to establish an emotional bond with your audience then, the best way to do that is through simplistic and appealing language that should be used in the messages showing up on the website.

Moreover, using a casual tone or language in your website for user-instructions will assist you in creating a strong or unique bond with your target audience thereby saving you from the extreme efforts that firms go through while executing social media campaigns for their firms.
