Communicating With Your Web Developers
Here are some tips to communicate effectively with the developers and make sure that the project runs seamlessly.
Provide enough and appropriate Documentation
The user interface provides the best documentation. It informs the developers about the placement of the data and how it should be formatted. Not only this, the UI defines the flow of the work process and what needs to happen. Spend a little time on your UI and complete it from all respects. This will make things a great deal easier with the web developers.
It would be advisable for the designers to plan the features accordingly and ensure that they gave some type of structure like HTML that can be ready as and when needed. It would make things easier for the developers as they would have to simply insert data into a polished page rather that creating it from the start.
Take beneficial Decisions
Developers need to make a host of decisions pertaining to functionality elements of the website like architecture, code style and language. However, there decisions are not as subjective as that of the designers. Designers need to decide om the look and feel of the interface. But thats not to say that you have the ultimate control. Designers should never change the design while the developers are developing certain features.
Be Accessible and Available
The development stage begins when the designers hand over the UI design to the developers. Thus designers should make sure that design concept is fully realized in the working application. Don't expect the developers to read between the lines and do guesswork. Instead stay involved throughout the process and be ready for any assistance or inquiry with the deliverables.
Stay Focused
Avoid making your user interface too complex. This is because it is inly going to increase the time on to development, and eventually cause you to miss deadlines. If you can not think of a good reason why a certain feature should be included in the UI, then it doesn’t really need to be there. It will only slow down the project and create more problems that you would need to solve. Instead focus on what is more important for the users and devote time on that.
Set realistic deadlines
Designers can whip up new designs in a couple of days and turn them around. However, the development procedure is not as easy. Developers need more time to check the structure and functionality of the website. Therefore, estimate the time you would need to complete the project and set realistic deadlines.
